Tarangire National Park is a park in Tanzania covering an area of about 2600sq km. the name Tarangire derives from the river that flows within the park that is the lifeline for wildlife, especially during the dry season. The Park has the largest concentration of elephant in Africa with herds numbering over 300 and also over a quarter of a million other wildlife seen here during the dry season that runs from June to November.
The vegetation consists of mixed acacia woodlands, an aquatic forest and the scattered giant baobab trees. The swamps are the focus of the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world. Yellow-collared Lovebirds are a common bird sighting in the trees along the Tarangire River.
